EV Calculator 2026: how much will you really save?
Pick your country and EV, say how far you drive. You get monthly running cost, savings against petrol or diesel, and how many years the EV takes to pay for itself.
Savings vs petrol or diesel
Change anything. Results update as you type.
Edit rates and assumptions
Assumes 10% charging loss and 30 days a month. Service savings are not included, so real savings are usually a little higher. All defaults are estimates, so edit them to match your own bill.
Charging time and cost
How long a charge takes and what it costs, using your country’s home rate.
Real-world range
The rated range is a lab number. This shows what you will get on the road.
Rule of thumb: plan trips on 80% of the real range so you reach a charger with a buffer.
EV models compared
Approximate real-world figures. Cost uses the home rate of the country selected on the Savings tab.
Country comparison
Same car everywhere: an EV doing 5.5 km/kWh vs a petrol car doing 15 km/l, charged at home.
Rates are averages and move often. Check your own tariff before deciding. Sources used: national energy regulators and statistics agencies, manufacturer specs.
Common questions
How much does an EV cost per km in India?
Charging at home at about ₹8/kWh, a compact EV costs roughly ₹1.5–2 per km. A petrol hatchback is around ₹6–7 per km. Public fast charging is dearer, often ₹18–25/kWh, so home charging matters most.
Is an EV cheaper than petrol over 5 years?
Usually yes if you drive 30 km a day or more and can charge at home. Use the payback number above: under 5 years is a good sign.
How much range do I lose in real driving?
Expect 20–35% less than the rated figure on highways, and more in extreme heat or cold with the AC or heater running.
How long does an EV battery last?
Most lose about 1.5–3% a year and come with 8-year warranties. After 8 years most still hold 80–88% of their capacity.
